I don’t know if anyone reads Yahoo’s homepage, but I do. One of the headline articles today, was that Walmart is going global, again. Here is the part that made me laugh:
“Since venturing into Mexico in 1991, Walmart International has grown haphazardly. During the 1990s the retailer exported its big-box, low-price model. While that strategy worked in North America, the results were so bad in Germany and Korea that Walmart withdrew from those countries in 2006.”
Yes, Walmart will always suck in any European country, because they don’t support “slave” labor. Yep, this is the reason they had to get out of Germany. Germany has very strong worker unions, not to mention that Germany’s minimum wage is also way above the US’. How does Walmart keep passing on cheap prices to their consumers? Why of course, by blatantly underpaying their employees. In Germany they were told to either adhere to the union wages and labor laws, or leave. Guess what? They left!
Maybe they have learned from the many class-action suits that were filed against them for discrimination and cheating employees out of their wages. However, I am not convinced of it. So I am remaining a hater for Walmart and keep jugging the Hatorate.
While there are many things that annoy me about living in Germany, it always makes me grin when American companies go over there, thinking they will make a huge profit. Yes, Germany is the largest European economy, but that doesn’t mean they are doing it via underpaying their employees and cutting corners. Companies like Walmart will never survive over there.
As many know, Walmart has always been a pet peeve of mine. Yep, I am way harsh in this one and always said that this company stands for everything that is wrong with our country. To know that there are certain countries out there that simply won’t put up with their unethical ways of making money is music to my ears.
Meanwhile, I am still amused that INGLEWOOD (the “hood” of Los Angeles) denied Walmart to open their doors there. I know that Monrovia did the same. Unfortunately, Walmart just went across the street to Duarte, which did give them a building permission.
Sorry, I sure as hell am not a rich person but I rather pay a few dollars more for American made stuff, sold in a small mom and pop store than Wal-Mart’s cheap, imported crap that contributes to entire state deficits and prides itself by putting small, local stores out of business.
Hatorate! Tastes hm, hm, good!
