Pump it Up
Since the last blog has created a storm of commentary, I shall bring it back to another, more neutral posting
I am now in week three of my new, healthier life. Apparently, it takes a while until one notices the work. My trainer told me it will take up to a month, so patiently one waits for the pounds to drop. Meanwhile, I have accepted the constant state of pain I am in. It is better than in the first week, but my butt, hips, thighs and chest are almost always sore. Or, one just feels as if the legs are made of pudding. Walking up the stairs is definitely a chore these days.
On another positive note though, I really am tired at night. When I do come home after working out I am so exhausted that I generally fall asleep quickly. Also positive is the fact that I am logging everything I eat. For example, last Sunday I really wanted a cheeseburger. It was my first cheeseburger in a month and I figured it can’t be that bad. NOT! Turns out the cheeseburger has 680 calories. That is more than half of my daily food intake! I told my trainer yesterday and of course, he made me work out harder. He now hands me heavier weights. Trust me, there are times when I feel like a stink bug. I am rolling on my back, sweating like a pig while whining “I can’t do this.” He usually grins at me and says “you are at 5, I want 15 more.” He is like some drill sergeant from hell.
The good thing about my trainer though, is that he really holds me accountable. There are times when I really don’t feel like going to the gym and working out hard for an hour. But the sheer fact that I have made an appointment with him means that I cannot cancel it. One has to be considerate of other people’s time and you all know how I hate people without integrity. BTW, did you know that it takes 120 minutes of cardio to work off a Snicker’s bar? Thank god I didn’t go there!
I really like the Bodybug thingy. I am happy to report that I definitely do burn more calories than I am consuming, so it’s just a matter of time until the pounds start dropping. My trainer told me that the body needs to get used to the new work out routine and adjust to the new metabolism. I am eating 5 times a day, even if it is only a banana, or a hard-boiled egg. I definitely also have much more energy than I used to have. To keep it up, my trainer is “making me” come in on Thursday morning at 8 am. YES, you’ve read that right, on Thanksgiving! Well, at least I don’t have to feel as bad when eating the mashed potatoes and the turkey
Meanwhile, I am a little sad that my husband is working up in Santa Maria for 3 months. He is working on Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and I will only see him on the weekend. But, I am very proud of him and I don’t really get home before 9 pm during the week anyways. So, by the time he returns I’ll be all fit and in shape.
I love you, Knopf!
